The player
You pick your own name in the opening. You’re skilled on and off the track and you have a record. You’re quiet about it, and the people who know react with curiosity, pity or suspicion. In dialogue you choose between guarded, honest and cocky.
The player has no fixed gender; NPCs say “kid”, “driver” or “you”.
